Ronald Ophuis part of big exhibition at Fondation Frances, Paris
Ronald Ophuis is part of the exhibition XXH, that is part of a bigger program by Fondation Frances which celebrates its 15th anniversary.
The first part of the exhibition focuses on the individual, examining the complexity of the human condition, the desires, and impulses that drive us. The second part places the individual at the heart of society and history, exploring collective movements and overflows, as well as the confrontations and resistances they provoke.
‘XXH’ offers an in-depth analysis of collective excesses from an intimate and personal perspective. The featured works examine the mechanisms of violence that structure our societies and question the direct involvement of individuals in the creation of collective deviations. As mirrors of human conflicts and hopes, they reflect the tensions between the private and the political, the individual and the collective, destructive forces and acts of rebellion—opposing dynamics that shape society, its history, and its collective memory.
The presented works encourage awareness and personal commitment in the face of injustice. Viewing art as a means of resilience and social transformation, XXH transcends the traditional exhibition format and offers a platform for reflection and action, challenging viewers to consider their position in the contemporary world and their responsibilities in the face of collective crises.
Among the featured artists are: Kader Attia, Fatemeh Baigmoradi, Christian Boltanski, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Michael Ray Charles, Mounir Fatmi, Ronald Ophuis, Christine Spengler, Bri Williams.
From Ronald Ophuis the artwork Latrine Poland 1944 (2001) will be on display (see image on the right).
